Reward Use Case: Create a Fixed Discount Reward for a Set Number of Points

Video Learning

Here's a brief video to get you started.

Use Case Steps

Rewards are intended to encourage Members to engage with your loyalty program by offering prizes that they can redeem, in exchange for spending their loyalty points. When a Member redeems a Reward, the platform automatically deducts a specified number of points from their point balance.

This article describes how to create a Reward that provides the Member with a discount in exchange for spending their loyalty points.

Use case: Cooper and Madison want to entice their Members to spend 500 loyalty points in exchange for a $10 discount on their next purchase.

Note: This use case requires that you have a published Offer that grants a $10 discount. The Surprise and Delight Offer use case provides instructions for creating a similar type of Offer, and can be used as a reference. If you follow the steps for the Surprise and Delight Offer use case, simply change the amount of the discount to $10 (instead of $7). Also skip the steps for assigning eligible Segments; this Reward use case is intended to be available to all Members, not just a selected Segment. This use case guide assumes that you have created an appropriate Offer named: 10%OffFor500Points

  1. Select Rewards from the top navigation bar, then select Rewards > Rewards from the side navigation menu. The Rewards screen is displayed.

  2. Search for the Reward template named: TEMPLATE Item Discount Free. You can search for this specific template by entering its name in the Search field at the top.

  3. Next to the Reward template, click the Copy icon.

  1. The platform creates a copy of the Reward and displays the Reward Details screen with the Definition tab selected. The default name of the new Reward is the name of the base template followed by a counter, such as "(1)."

  2. On the Definition tab, in the Reward Details section, update the Display Name to reflect your Reward purpose, and optionally enter a description in the Description field.

  3. By default, Reward templates are assigned to the Template Reward Category, and assigned the Tag value of Template. These values are intended to make it easier to search for the base templates within your Loyalty Essentials account. When you clone a template, the best practice recommendation is to remove these default Category and Tag assignments in the copied Reward. In the Categories field, click the X icon next to Template. Likewise, in the Tag field, click the X icon next to Template. Optionally, you can assign your own Reward Category and / or Tag value to the new Reward.

  4. From the Reward Type drop-down menu, select Offer.

  5. From the Offer drop-down menu, select 10%OffFor500Points. This Offer should contain the details of the $10-off Coupon.

  6. In the Required Metric field, enter 500. From the drop-down menu, select Point.

  7. Click Save.

  1. When copying an object, the recommended best practice is to update the object's Internal Name so as to avoid any duplicate name issues if you copy this object again in the future. At the bottom of the Reward Details section, click Show More to display additional fields.

  1. Click the Lock icon next to the Internal Name field to make the field editable. A confirmation dialog box is displayed; click OK.

  1. In the Internal Name field, enter a new value. The Internal Name must be unique and can not include any special characters or spaces; only numbers, letters, and underscores are allowed. Do not change the Internal Name once the Reward is published.

  2. Click Save.

  1. Scroll up to the Reward header area. Click into the image area, and upload a new image from your local PC.

  1. To publish the Reward, from the Status drop-down menu in the Reward header area, select Publish. A confirmation dialog box is displayed; click Confirm.

Your Reward has now been configured to allow eligible Members to exchange 500 points for a $10 discount.

If you navigate to the Offer Details screen for the 10%OffFor500Points Offer you selected above, and select the Used By tab, you will now see this Reward listed.
